Turns 1 through 4: "The Esses"

The esses are a very quick set of turn taken nearly flat out.

Entry is made easier by moving to driver's right down the front straight after the pit wall, across the white line and out towards the track's edge. Watch for traffic exiting the pits.

A mild late apex through T1 will give a better enterance into T2. Most drivers and cars will be able to maintain their front-straight speed through the corner. Braking is usually not necessary, except perhaps a light tap to assist initial turn-in. Use of the curb is recommended.

T2 is taken flat out. Use all of the curb to keep speeds up, but note that this curb has been known to chew up tires in the past.

If your entry to T1 and execution of T2 is correct, T3 should be easily straightlined over the curb.

T4 is also nearly straightlined, assuming correct execution of the rest of the esses. For very fast cars, it can be necessary to begin braking for Turn 5 during Turn 4.

Turns 5 and 6

Turns 5 and 6 are driven together, either as a single long late apex, or as a double apex left hander.

To drive Turns 5 and 6 as a single apex, straight line brake down the short straight section after Turn 4. Enter 5 mid track and let the car stay wide all the way through 5, and into 6. Keeping your head up in 5 helps you to find the late apex exit to 6. You should just clip the end of the curb at the apex of 6. Then let the car wash out all the way driver's right. You should be parallel to the track's edge and pointed at the curb in Turn 7.

To drive Turns 5 and 6 as a double apex, less braking is needed off of Turn 4. Brake only enough to allow the car to turn towards the Turn 5 curb. Carry your speed in a near straight line early apex over the Turn 5 curb. Trail brake off the exit of Turn 5 as you pick up the line into Turn 6 as described above. You will have slightly less speed entering 6 than you would following the single apex line, however you will have also carried much more speed through 5.

Double apexing Turns 5 and 6 tends to help the higher power cars that can accelerate out of the tighter turn between 5 and 6. Driving the single apex line is better for momentum cars that cannot accelerate as easily.

Turn 7

Turn 7 is the most important corner on the track, as it leads to the longest straight.

The primary key to exiting Turn 7 properly is getting a good enterance into the corner from Turn 6. If you've properly washed out on the exit of Turn 6, you should be able to clip the driver's left entry curb without having to turn the car left.

Just after passing the driver's left curb, turn up the hill aiming for a late apex across the back of the Turn 7 driver's right curb.

By the time you're crossing the curb at the apex, you should be turning back left towards Turn 8. Roll on the throttle while passing the Turn 7 apex. You should be flat out from the entry of Turn 8 until you brake for Turn 12.

Turns 8 through 11

Turns 8 through 11 are driven flat out in all but the fastest cars, and make up the fastest part of the track.

You should be at full throttle coming off the exit of Turn 7. Simply hold your line off Turn 7 over the crest at Turn 8. Keep to driver's left edge of the track all the way to the Turn 9 turn-in point.

The apex to Turn 9 is blind at turn in. Apex the corner at the very end of the driver's right curb.

After cresting over the top of Turn 9, Turns 10 and 11 are flat out, and straightlined. Use the curb at Turn 10.

The straight between Turn 11 and 12 is bumpy. Keeping a car width off of the left side of the track helps to avoid the worst of the bumps, but you will need to move left at the end of the straight to setup for Turn 12.

Turn 12

Turn 12 is a flat and fast right hander.

There is a slight right hand dog-leg bend at the end of the straight, leading into Turn 12. If you've stayed off the left edge of the straight to avoid the bumps, this is where you will pick up the driver's left edge of the track.

It's easiest to get most of your braking done in a straight line into the dog-leg, then follow the edge of the track with some light trail-braking to the Turn 12 turn-in point.

Use caution, and plan ahead for this braking zone, as even street cars will be running in excess of 120 mph into this corner.

After braking and turn-in, Turn 12 is driven as a normal constant radius right hand sweeper. Apex at the center of the driver's right curb, using only a little of the paint.

Your exit should take you out to the edge of the track driver's left. You should continue to unwind the wheel until you are headed towards the right side of the short straight leading to Turn 13.

Turn 13

Turn 13 is a heavily banked left hander, nicknamed the "Fishbowl" or the "Toiletbowl" due to it's tendancy to "flush" cars down in a spiral motion. It's a fairly exciting turn due to the dramatic elevation change.

Off the exit of Turn 12, cross from driver's left to driver's right down the short straight leading to Turn 13.

Straight line brake for Turn 13 along the driver's right edge of the track. Enter the bowl at the far right, and stay high around the lip of the bowl for nearly half of the turn.

At about 90 degrees of rotation, drop down the bowl, heading for a late apex. The extreme banking allows for plenty of traction.

Apex at the end of the bowl's curbing. Due to the banking of the bowl versus the banking of the curb, there's really no advantage to clipping the curb.

Allow the car to wash out to driver's right by unwinding the wheel early yet slowly after the apex. Proper exit of Turn 13 will allow Turn 14 to be taken flat out.

Turn 14

If done correctly, Turn 14 is almost a non-event.

Exiting the Fishbowl properly will place you at the driver's right edge of the track, directly before the curb for Turn 14. You should be able to accelerate off 13 and simply follow the driver's right edge of the track around the curbing for Turn 14.

The early apex at 14 will send you wide off the corner towards the edge of the track, driver's left. Allow the car to run out to the driver's left track edge. You should not have to slow the car more than a slight feathering of the throttle.

A proper run out will set the car up to crest the hill in front of you in a straight line while you head from driver's left to driver's right to setup for the Turn 15 braking zone.

Turn 15

Turn 15 leads to the very long front straight, and is the second most important corner on the track.

As you crest the hill towards Turn 15, you should be at the driver's right tracks edge. Brake lightly as you crest the hill. As the hill bottoms out, traction will increase dramatically allowing for harder braking.

Turn 15 is similar to Turn 6 at Laguna Seca, in that getting it right will allow you to carry tremendous speed down the following straight, while getting it wrong will put you into the run-off.

As you come off the brakes as the hill bottoms out, turn left across the track and into the turns banking. Aim for a late apex. An early apex will result in the corner spitting you out of the banking prematurely, and towards the dirt.

Clip the curb and allow the car to wash up the banking and out over the white line that demarks the pit-lane enterance. Allow the car to run wide as necessary, but of course make certain to watch for cars slowing for the pits. If cars are pitting in front of you, you will probably have to modify your line through 15 in order to be able to stay left off the corner.

The Frontstraight

The frontstraight is long, straight and fast!

Exit off Turn 15 and it's off to the drag races. The frontstraight is very long, and downhill. Many clubs use this as the preferred passing zone during open track sessions. Make sure to have your passing done before the end of the pit wall.

Once past the pit wall you will need to move right across the white line to line up for Turn 1.
