Paul RicardFrom Trackpedia
Track SummaryWeb site: http://www.circuitpaulricard.com/ Address: Le Castellet, France IntroductionThis circuit was born from the dream of one man. Paul Ricard, the drinks magnate always wanted to play with racing cars so he decided to build a place to do it. The result was the flat, fast and dusty circuit at Le Castellet in southern France. The entire project was built on a grand scale with excellent facilities for fans and teams alike. On the full circuit the mile long Mistral straight dominated the races only to be followed by the daunting Signes bend. Most of the teams enjoyed Paul Ricard because the weather was usually good. Drivers were less enthusiastic, although they appreciated the run-off areas that had been sadly lacking most of the previous French venues. The French Grand Prix arrived here in 1971 and stayed for the next 20 years, although there were several races held at Dijon during that time. The arrival of Magny-Cours in 1991 saw the teams leave Paul Ricard although now the circuit has passed into the hands of F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone rumours of a return are growing.
