Track SummaryWeb site: http://www.oranpark.com.au Address: Oran Park, Australia IntroductionOran Park Raceway is 43 years old, and has an extremely interesting past. Oran Park was started by the Singer Car Club in 1962. The Circuit played host to the Australian Touring Car Championship and other events of national significance. The circuit then was only the current South Circuit with the now famous Bridge and Figure 8 North Circuit added to create the Grand Prix Circuit in the early 1970’s. It was at this time Oran Park hosted the Australian Grand Prix, and hosted lucrative Sports Sedan events each year known as the Toby Lee Trophy. In the 1980’s Oran Park hosted the Grand Final round of the then Shell Australian Touring Car Championship, the biggest series in Australian motorsport at the time. The V8 Supercars and Super Truck racing are still popular attractions at Oran Park, though most major events are held at Eastern Creek Raceway, especially in large international events like the A1 Grand Prix and motorbike racing, where the superior facilities, track surface, safety and location are important. Recently Super Motard and Drifting events have provided exciting and innovative attractions at the Park. Rumours have it, however, that Oran Park is due to be shut down in the next few years, with the current owners developing the site, but possibly constructing another track further south.
