Track SummaryWeb site: http://www.nmd.com.au/racetracks_detail.cfm?id=9 Address: Darwin, Australia IntroductionThe Northern Territory Major Events Company prepares for, organises and manages the Territory's round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at the Territory Motor Sport Board owned facility at Hidden Valley. The first Territory round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series was run at Hidden Valley Raceway on 17-19 July 1998. It was followed by a second on 4-6 June 1999. The following three events in 2000, 2001 and 2002 were staged one month earlier in May. The next Territory round will see a move back a month to 27-29 June 2003. As an event, the Territory Round of the V8 Supercars has quickly elevated itself to premier status, not only on the Northern Territory's sporting calendar but also as a National motor sport event. The success of the Territories Round is well recorded in unsolicited letters from southern officials, sponsors and in the media locally and nationally in the motor sport press. The event also draws Tourism value, National and International media exposure and promotes social and cultural significance for Territorians young and old. The Northern Territory public, the private sector and business generally are now seeing Hidden Valley's V8 Supercar event as being a valuable entertainment package and one that is worthy of their support and investment. Detailed planning ensures that ticketing, parking, public shade, internal pedestrian traffic, shuttle buses and public bus pick up and drop off arrangements work smoothly. Specific incentives are offered for families to attend and arrangements made to accommodate the handicapped. The corporate sector is targeted with attractive hospitality packages for groups; offering shaded seating food and beverages. The Territory round will remain secure and grow as a result of AVESCO's, (Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company) success in securing a round of the V8 Supercar 'circus' into Shanghai, the Peoples Republic of China. The Territory is hoping that Darwin will become the point of departure for the V8 teams. This would have added opportunities for promotion additional economic benefits for the Northern Territory economy.
